1. What is the best accessory to complete a room?
2. How do you decide on the color scheme for the room?
Colors represent moods, evoke emotions, and have the power to define a space. What is the purpose? Brighter in a kitchen? More subtle in let’s say a family room, or “dreamy creamy” in a master bedroom? “Beachy bum” aqua blue in a little girl’s room?
3. The secret to styling a mantel?
Mixture of textures, materials, heights – the unexpected.
4. Designer pet peeve?
Pillows that have “Karate Chop” indentations or when placed on their tips – resembling awkward polygons. Cleaning people are notorious – I like my spaces to look inviting, luscious and appealing to the senses.
5. Without fail design hint that you have learned over your career?
Don’t react to over-reactive clients. That dreaded phone call, saying “I hate this.” I always try to be there for all deliveries and installations to give it my final touch. When I give it that “special” touch and explain my vision, that hate usually becomes the favorite design element. Clients hire us for a reason, because we see things differently. Sometimes I push mine a bit beyond their comfort zones and at times, not too often some resistance but for the most part – they love it !
